Welcome
Some of my earliest memories were made in the kitchen.
Not because I was cooking.
But because I was watching.
I watched my family prepare meals with confidence, love, and recipes that lived in their hearts more than they ever did on paper. I remember standing beside my mom in the kitchen, helping whenever I could, learning little by little as she cooked. At the time, I thought I was simply learning how to make a meal.
Looking back, I realize I was learning something much bigger.
I was learning about family.
About culture.
About generosity.
About slowing down long enough to enjoy the people around the table.
Those moments shaped me in ways I didn’t fully understand until years later.
They taught me that food isn’t just something we eat.
It’s one of the ways we tell our stories.
It’s how we preserve traditions, celebrate milestones, comfort one another, and pass a little piece of ourselves from one generation to the next.
Those memories are the reason I created Balanced with Bibi.
⸻
When I chose the name Balanced with Bibi, I wasn’t thinking about perfection.
I was thinking about intention.
Because to me, balance isn’t about doing everything.
It’s about making room for what matters most.
It’s choosing meals that nourish your body.
Protecting your peace when life feels overwhelming.
Holding on to traditions while remaining open to new experiences.
Finding joy in everyday moments that are often overlooked.
Balance looks different for everyone.
For me, it’s found in the meals that connect me to my Guyanese roots, the quiet moments that bring peace, the stories worth preserving, and the everyday choices that nourish both body and mind.
⸻
This is more than a recipe blog.
It’s a place where culture, wellness, storytelling, and intentional living come together.
A place where a traditional Guyanese curry can sit beside a fresh summer salad.
Where vegetables from my garden are just as meaningful as a family recipe that’s been passed down through generations.
Where a travel experience, a quiet morning, or a simple conversation can inspire us just as much as the food on our plates.
Because I don’t believe food, wellness, culture, and everyday life belong in separate conversations.
To me, they’re all connected.
The way we cook.
The traditions we preserve.
The habits we build.
The peace we protect.
Together, they shape the lives we create.
⸻
Food is a big part of that story.
Growing up with Guyanese traditions taught me that recipes are more than ingredients. They carry history. They preserve culture. They connect generations.
Some of my favorite memories were made watching my family cook—learning by observing, listening, and spending time together in the kitchen. I also remember standing beside my mom as she cooked, helping whenever I could and slowly learning the recipes and traditions that had been passed down through our family.
Those moments taught me that cooking isn’t just about feeding people.
It’s about showing love, creating memories, and preserving a piece of who we are.
Today, those traditions remain the foundation of my kitchen.
You’ll find Guyanese and Caribbean favorites, but you won’t only find those here.
You’ll also discover wholesome everyday meals, nourishing soups, fresh salads, seasonal recipes, and dishes inspired by my garden, my travels, and the many cultures that make our tables richer.
Because honoring where we come from should never stop us from exploring where life can take us.
⸻
But balance doesn’t stop in the kitchen.
It’s found in the little moments that often go unnoticed.
The first sip of coffee in the morning.
A flower blooming on the roadside.
A walk through the garden.
Watching something you planted begin to grow.
A meal shared with family.
A deep breath after a long day.
Those moments matter.
Just like a garden, a balanced life isn’t built overnight.
It grows with care, patience, and the small choices we make every day.
⸻
I’m still learning.
Still growing.
Still discovering new recipes, traditions, and ways to live well.
I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t believe anyone does.
My hope is that this becomes more than a blog.
I hope it becomes a place where we learn from one another, celebrate our cultures, embrace new experiences, and create lives that feel nourishing—not only through the food we eat, but through the way we choose to live.
One day you might find a traditional Guyanese curry. Another day it might be a nourishing salad, a comforting soup, a travel story, something growing in my garden, or a quiet reflection on finding balance in everyday life.
Because that’s what a balanced life looks like.
It’s rooted in tradition, open to growth, and lived with intention.
⸻
My Hope for You
Whether you’re here to cook a new recipe, reconnect with your roots, build healthier habits, find a little inspiration, or simply slow down for a moment…
I hope you feel at home here.
I hope you leave with more than a recipe.
I hope you leave with an idea.
A memory.
A sense of peace.
Or perhaps a gentle reminder to make space for what truly matters.
Because balance isn’t about having it all.
It’s about living intentionally with what matters most.
Thank you for being here.
Welcome home.
Guyanese Roots. Modern Balance.
Protect your peace. Protect your balance.
